Upson's stories are ripe for rediscovery.

And I needed a jolt of good news after all the stories I've been hearing from friends on the west coast. It takes pure brilliance to write short stories of this quality. If anyone is patient you can pick up all of his books at reasonable prices. I got most of mine through Abe Books. Some people think they should be valued like gold, others price them very reasonable.

If you ever pass by Middlebury College and know where to look, you can see Upsons house which is owned by the College and called "Earthworm Manor".

I could go on for days about Upson and Botts, they have been a passion of mine for years.

Thank You SaivS for helping to keep him alive!johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05094451070136768113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4099827080854690588.post-70146598337264157682012-06-09T08:30:18.551-07:002012-06-09T08:30:18.551-07:00Walker, I have read the Glencannon stories too; I ...Walker, I have read the Glencannon stories too; I am lucky enough to have all three volumes of his collected stories. They are a great series of humorous stories, and i hope to have an article on Guy Gilpatric in the future.Sai Shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14480681895921130917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4099827080854690588.post-42633859369042600572012-06-09T06:34:54.724-07:002012-06-09T06:34:54.724-07:00My favorite series in the SATURDAY EVENING POST wa...My favorite series in the SATURDAY EVENING POST was the Glencannon stories by Guy Gilpatric. He was a crazy officer on a ship always getting into hilarious predicaments. There were around 100 short stories during 1930-1950, all of which have been reprinted in various collections.

There would have been more but Gilpatric shot his terminally ill wife in 1950 and then committed suicide. A sad end to a career of writing great comedy stories.Walker Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16089880902426182100noreply@blogger.com
