Pulpfest 2016 - a few photos

Attended Pulpfest 2016. Not going to write up a full report when Walker Martin does such a great job, just thought I'd share a few photos to whet your appetite.

The vendor room moved this year to a place with much better lighting.

Lots of bargains there:

Some interesting pulps I saw there:

Gangster Stories - a Clayton pulp that I've never seen before

Underworld Detective - another pulp that I've never seen before

Another interesting Pulpfest tradition - cakes in the Pulpfest themes:

Some very interesting talks there:

The Artists of THE ARGOSY —  120 Years of Sensational Pulp Artists by David Saunders. who was presented with the Lamont award there for his service to the pulp community. A great talk with lots of interesting titbits about the artists and the magazine. Munsey believed in hiring a team and giving them a free hand.

I missed these because I was too tired, people told me they were good:

A Century of the Specialty Pulp — LOVE STORY MAGAZINE and the Romance Pulp Phenomenon (Laurie Powers)

A Century of the Specialty Pulp — WESTERN STORY MAGAZINE and the Evolution of the Pulp Western (Walker Martin/Ed Hulse)

And here's a photo that I took at this talk by Doug Ellis 120 Years of THE ARGOSY — The World’s First Pulp Magazine.

A surprise pulp cover I encountered at a restaurant near the venue:

Lastly, an advertising banner that was used at a newsagent's for Western Story magazine

Pulp Magazine collector picture from EBay

Does anyone know who this is? The negative for this picture just came up for sale on EBay, and I thought he might be an author - the collection is small enough to be one author's output.

I see Wild West Weekly, Sky Aces, Texas Rangers, Two Western Books, Argosy in the collection.

If you know the person, leave a note in the comments and I'll change the image caption.
